The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest of the World's Oceans,
with an area of about 106,460,000 square kilometers. It covers approximately 20 percent of Earth's surface and about 29
percent of its water surface area after the Pacific Ocean.
The Equator divides the Atlantic Ocean into the North Atlantic Ocean and the south Atlantic Ocean and is located between Americas to the west of the Atlantic Ocean basin and the continents of Europe and Africa to the East.
As one component of the interconnected World Ocean, it is connected in the north to the Arctic Ocean, to the Pacific Ocean in the southwest, the Indian Ocean in the southeast, and the Southern Ocean in the south.
There are many islands in the Atlantic Oceans, among the most well-known are:
The Bahamas
Canary Islands (Spain)
Azores (Portugal)
Cap Verde Islands
Greenland, which not only is the largest island in the Atlantic Ocean, but also on earth.
